Stadium Improvement Project

Fifteen years ago, St. Mary’s Ryken envisioned providing our students and the local community with the county’s first synthetic turf field. In 2010, that vision became a reality with the opening of the MIL Family Field and Stadium.

Providing

15 years of Sports and Activities

Over the years, athletes have enjoyed a durable surface that increased safety, improved performance in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and decreased environmental impacts. Since the field was installed, SMR has won 11 WCAC championships, which speaks to the importance of the impact of the Friday Night Lights community experience.

Thousands of local youth have benefitted from participating in sports practices and games, summer camps, elementary school relay races, Special Olympics events, movie nights, and countless other enrichment activities on this field.

Enhance

with latest innovations

It is now time to replace the turf with the latest innovations that simulate the best natural grass surfaces. This includes increased padding for safety; a natural, renewable in-fill; and an all-weather surface that can be used by multiple sports.

This project is essential not only for the safety and performance of our current athletes but also for attracting future talent and maintaining the proud legacy of excellence established by the athletes and coaches over more than 5 decades.

Support

the Turf Field

Our goal is to raise $800,000 to fund a state-of-the-art turf replacement. We are currently 75% of the way toward our goal because of the generous support of our community over the past year, as well as a local bond initiative grant of $200,000 from the state of Maryland.

Your support, whether through a donation or by spreading the word, will make a significant difference. Together, we can ensure that Knights Athletics continue to thrive and inspire future generations.
