Frequently Asked Questions

Summer Knights seeks to offer a positive camping experience for all students. Please note that Summer Knights is not equipped with therapeutic or rehabilitative programs and may not be able to accommodate students with significant physical, emotional or behavioral difficulties. Please reach out to our Summer Knights Director to determine if Summer Knights can meet the needs of your student.

Summer Knights Mission:

Summer Knights mission is to cultivate discovery and creativity by encouraging the exploration of academic, athletic and enrichment endeavors in a safe and fun learning environment.

Is a deposit required?

$75 nonrefundable deposit per camper is due at the time of registration. Families have the option to pay in full at registration or by June 1. Please be aware that camper registration is not complete until full payment is made. Payment should be completed by June 1 or the campers registration will be canceled.

If you pay the full amount upon registration, you do not have to pay a separate deposit. 

What is the cancelation policy? 

Campers may withdraw from a program and a refund will be issued, less the $75 deposit, until May 31. If you need to cancel, please contact Summer Knights to discuss transferring into a different program before canceling.

Program fees will be fully refunded if SMR does not run the program. Families will be notified two weeks in advance if a program has to be canceled.

How long is registration open?
Camp registration is open until the day before camp begins, or until the camp is full, whichever comes first.

Do you offer before/after care?
Yes, before care is available from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. and after care is available from 3 - 6 p.m. 

Before Care extended day: $40 a week

After Care extended day: $55 a week

Before Care and After Care extended day: $75 a week

Do you accept walk in registrations?
Please register at least one business day before the camp begins. 

What ages do your camps accommodate?
Summer Knights has options for students aged 5 - 15. All of our camps have varying age ranges. Please see each specific camp to determine the range for the camp.

Photographs:
SMR reserves the right to take photo/video of your child and use them in future St. Mary's Ryken marketing.

Medication Policy:
Per the Maryland Department of Health, the only medication allowed at camps are emergency medications (EpiPens and Inhalers). Parents must provide an authorization form, which must be completed by a students primary health care provider in advance. Forms should be submitted to Summer Knights for approval the Wednesday before the first day of camp. Please contact the Summer Knights Director for questions or clarification regarding the medication policy

What about camp shirts?
Camp shirts are included in the price of registration! We do our best to accommodate the size indicated on your registration form.

What about inclement weather?
Safety is our top priority at Summer Knights. We follow state mandated protocol for inclement weather. If there is inclement weather, outdoor camps will be moved indoors. If for any reason camp needs to be canceled, families will be notified via email, text message and updates will be posted on the on the Summer Knights web site. To opt-in to receive text messages from SMR, text Y or Yes to 67587. 

Are discounts available?
Yes, we offer coupon codes and multi-child discounts. Keep an eye out for coupon codes that are posted on St. Mary's Ryken social media accounts and on flyers that are distributed by schools and churches. Please contact summerknights@smrhs.org to inquire about multi-child discounts

What should my child wear?
Campers should wear comfortable and appropriate clothing. Information about specific clothing for your camp will be emailed prior to the start of camp. Campers should wear closed toed shoes, flip flops are not permitted.

What should my child bring to camp?
An email will be sent home in advance with this information. Students should not bring expensive electronics or other valuable items. Summer Knights is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items.

Does my student have to attend SMR?
Our camps are open to all members of the Southern Maryland community. We would LOVE if your student decided to become a future Knight! 

Camps are held Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Where do I drop-off or pick-up my child?
Instructions regarding specific pick-up and drop-off locations will be emailed to you prior to your child's week of camp.

On the first morning camp, all campers must be checked in by a parent/guardian. All other days, the child is allowed to be dropped off. For pick-up, all parents/guardians must sign the student out. Campers may not leave camp and go directly to the parking lot to be picked up at the end of the day. This policy is for the safety of our campers and will be strictly enforced.
