Merit-Based Scholarships old

St. Mary's Ryken awards merit-based scholarships to incoming freshmen in the areas of academics, leadership, service, and fine arts. Merit-based scholarships are four-year scholarships and therefore SMR is not able to award scholarships to students attending SMR for less than four years.

The scholarship award process is very competitive. Scholarships range from $1,000 - $6,000/year, and awards are applied towards tuition each year through graduation as long as the recipient remains in good standing and meets the scholarship requirements. Typically there are multiple scholarship winners per category. All SMR Scholarship Committee decisions are final and not subject to review or appeal.

Parents who are concerned about tuition affordability should apply for need-based financial aid by December 15, 2023, AND ensure that their 8th grader competes for at least one of the scholarships listed below.  It is possible for a student to win more than one scholarship, and in some cases, both financial aid and scholarships are awarded.

New for the Class of 2028, there is no separate scholarship application on the application checklist within the admissions portal. Please take note of the requirements and due date for each scholarship listed below. Only applicants who have complete admissions application checklists will be considered for merit-based scholarships.

Scholarship Day for the Class of 2028 is January 20, 2024. Save the date if your student plans to compete for Leadership, Dance, Instrumental, Piano, Theatre, or Vocal scholarships. These competitions will be held in person at SMR only on January 20th. Further information about the Scholarship Day scheduling process will be shared with all eligible Class of 2028 applicants in early 2024.

Good luck!

***The SMR Scholarship Committee is finalizing the details for each competition.  Check back on September 5th for the list of available scholarships and how to compete.
