Outdoor patio and common area for students
Donnie Williams Center Mission
The Donnie Williams Center integrates health and wellness curriculum and programs into St. Mary’s Ryken High School and the larger Southern Maryland community to benefit our students, staff and friends of SMR. The Donnie Williams Center is a centralized, all-inclusive wellness facility, designed to strengthen, inspire and empower our entire community on their journey toward a balanced and healthier lifestyle. Aligned with the St. Mary’s Ryken High School mission and Xaverian Brothers’ core values, the Donnie Williams Center is a place to gather, to connect and to explore wellness through intellectual, occupational, physical, social, emotional and spiritual activities.
Donnie Williams Center - Officially Opened in August 2019!
It is with great excitement that St. Mary’s Ryken opened the Donnie Williams Center in August 2019, which now provides 48,000 square feet of modern, spacious facilities for many types of school, community, spiritual and sporting events.
The Donnie Williams Center bridges the upper and lower campuses, and provides much needed space and offerings for our school community. With new health and wellness classes, athletic training facilities, a basketball and volleyball court – this multipurpose facility also includes a stage, inside and outside gathering spaces for students, multipurpose rooms, gymnasium, locker rooms, concessions, campus store, outdoor patio and common areas.
With the additional space on campus, the facility is now the home for graduation ceremonies, all-school Mass and other gatherings, such as prom and alumni events.
"The SMR community spoke, and we listened! It is clear that this new multi-purpose space will create a center that our students, faculty and staff will be proud of. It will enable our entire school to gather to celebrate our most important events - Mass, graduation, student performances and athletic events. The new gymnasium will provide improved athletic facilities to compete in the prestigious Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, and allow us to welcome the community to host their events."
Mary Joy Hurlburt, President and CEO
"This new center will be a tremendous source of pride for our students. This is also the perfect opportunity to invest in an organization that continues to promote the development of young people who will make a positive difference wherever they go from here."
Jimmy Burke, '86, parent '19, Capital Campaign Co-Chair
"St. Mary’s Ryken is all about community and family. These are the reasons why it is so important to give back – because it’s our responsibility to take care of our family."
Patrick Haley, '99
"The momentum is here, and we need to continue that momentum to take advantage of all the right pieces being in place - our faculty, administrators and students. This school is going to be here for a very long time."
