St. Mary's Ryken Ice Hockey | MAPHL A Division Champions!
Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League "A" Division Champions!
A week after winning the WCAC Metro Division Championship our Ice Hockey team brought home the Mid-Atlantic Prep Hockey League "A" Division championship with a 4-2 win over Gonzaga College High School. This is the first MAPHL Championship in the history of SMR Ice Hockey!
The Knights entered the tournament as the 4th seed and defeated top seed DeMatha in the semifinal 5-4. In the championship match versus the Purple Eagles, Senior Pete Behrens had a hat trick scoring at even strength, short handed and a power play goal. Behrens also added an assist. Senior Josh Stevenson scored the other goal for SMR.
Special congratulations to the 11 Seniors on the team, Head Coach Matt Billman, Assistant Coach, Cam Beckner, and Director of Ice Hockey Operations, Chris Palombi, on this memorable season.
At the WCAC Tournament, the All-WCAC team was announced and here are the SMR selections:
