St. Mary’s Ryken is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school community operated under the Xaverian Brothers’ sponsorship dedicated to academic excellence and individualized student growth.

Our holistic college preparatory, faith-based education is tailored to our students’ needs and ambitions. SMR students receive a rigorous college preparatory, honors and Advanced Placement curriculum in a values-based environment.

Arts
At St. Mary's Ryken an appreciation of the arts is critical to a well-rounded education. We promote student talent and leadership through a range of classes and clubs that help foster an understanding of the arts.

The Fine Arts department provides the student with a better understanding of the visual and performing arts through academic study and performance. Intensive artistic training and performance opportunities are available to students who wish to focus and hone their gifts. Students are guided by faculty who are accomplished, practicing professionals in their own field.
Athletics
St. Mary's Ryken offers multiple opportunities for student-athletes to develop values such as leadership, integrity, determination, teamwork and sportsmanship. The athletics program educates student-athletes to persevere through adversity and compete with dignity and pride. Student-athletes consistently strive to be as good a person as possible both on and off the field of play. St. Mary's Ryken is committed to sponsoring an Athletics Program that provides its student-athletes with the opportunity to benefit from a well-rounded high school experience. We are proud to offer 26 varsity sports programs including 37 teams.
Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry is the heartbeat of St. Mary's Ryken! As a Catholic school, SMR helps to enrich the spiritual and sacramental growth of our students through daily Mass, theology class, daily prayer, service opportunities, mission trips, retreats and spiritual direction.

Facilities
Our 87-acre, waterfront campus offers a high school experience like no other in the Southern Maryland area. Our college-like campus prepares students for life after high school. Each day, students attend classes in six different buildings, allowing for plenty of time outdoors.

St. Mary's Ryken facilities and athletic fields are available for community use and rental.

The beautiful waterfront location on the St. Mary's Ryken campus allows us to offer a variety of indoor and outdoor camps for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Sports Medicine

The Sports Medicine team works closely with the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics; the Southern Maryland Orthopaedic Division and with MedStar Health for the medical needs of the student-athletes. You are not required to see only these physicians. Whenever you go to a doctor's office, you are required to provide the school and athletic trainers with documentation regarding their injury status and any restrictions that St. Mary's Ryken needs to be aware of.

Dr. Peter Johnston at Centers for Advanced Orthopedics oversees the Sports Medicine Department at St. Mary's Ryken, and is the primary referral for orthopedic injuries. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the Athletic Trainers.
