Merit-based scholarships are available!

St. Mary's Ryken awards merit-based scholarships to incoming freshmen in the areas of academics, leadership, service and fine arts. Merit-based scholarships are four-year scholarships and therefore high school transfer students are not eligible to compete.  

The scholarship award process is very competitive due to the large number of applications received. Please take note of the requirements and also note that there are separate deadlines for financial aid applications and merit-based scholarships. All SMR Scholarship Committee decisions are final and not subject to review or appeal.

Financial aid is available from the Archdiocese of Washington and SMR.

Financial aid at St. Mary's Ryken is based on each family's ability to pay. The primary responsibility for funding a child's education lies with the parents. As such, we expect that each parent will fund the child's education to the extent that they are able. Our financial aid program is designed to aid families after they have considered all of their own resources.

Financial aid is available for qualifying families from both the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW) and SMR. Applications for tuition assistance must be completed by using the tuition assistance program (TADS). To apply for ADW and SMR assistance, parents must only complete one TADS Financial Aid and Assessment form.

529 Educational Plans for High School Tuition

Based on tax law, 529 Plans may be used to pay SMR tuition. The tax law allows distribution of up to $10,000 per beneficiary (student) for tuition expenses for private or religious secondary schools (K-12) during a tax year. The 529 account owner can withdraw up to $10,000 for each beneficiary once per calendar year. For further guidance, please contact your tax preparer or broker. Additional fees may apply based on your child's extracurricular activities or course schedule. 

Breakfast and lunch are available for an additional fee. 

Payment Plan Options

St. Mary's Ryken utilizes VC Pay to facilitate tuition payments. VC Pay allows parents the convenience of viewing billing accounts and scheduled tuition payments online. 

One Payment: Full financial obligation due in July.

Two Semi-Annual Payments: Two equal payments.  First payment due in July and the second in January.

Four Quarterly Payments: Four equal payments - July, October, January and April.

10 Monthly Payments: Ten equal monthly payments, July – April.

11 Monthly Payments: Eleven equal monthly payments, July – May. 

23 Biweekly Payments: Twenty-three equal payments, every other week, July – May.

20 Semi-Monthly Payments: Twenty equal payments, twice per month, July – April.
