Senior Internship Program

St. Mary’s Ryken seniors enhance their career readiness through hands-on, structured internships—on campus or with community partners. With clear learning goals, professional supervision, and 60–120 hour commitments, students earn transcript recognition (with no impact on GPA - internships are pass/fail) while gaining resume-boosting experience, networking opportunities, and clarity on future pathways.

Unique among local high schools, this program empowers students with real-world insight and marketable skills—available as a semester, year-long or summer internship with both on- and off-campus placements.

Senior Internship - Ryan Betz

"This internship personally benefited me in many ways. I have never really been a “school person.” I love to learn, but it was never really my jam. This internship reignited my desire to learn and grow, I feel much more ready for college after this. It provided me with the skills I will need to get an advantage in my pursuit of a career. It has also given me a great reference for future jobs or internships. Most of all it really helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life. I definitely want to work in a history field, particularly museum work and teaching. This internship gave me the confirmation and confidence I needed to make that decision. Overall it was a very beneficial experience."

Ryan Betz, Class of 2024, History Department Intern

Senior Internship - Audrey Burfield

"My internship taught me how to network with the teachers, faculty, students, and other members of our community and taught me how to work with each and every member of our community and the communities we touch in a unique way for each. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am so glad I chose to work with the St. Mary’s Ryken Admissions team this year."

Audrey Burfield, Class of 2024, SMR Admissions Office Intern

Senior Internship - Giselle Maldonado

"I really enjoyed the opportunity to work as an intern for the admissions department this year. It was not only a fun experience, but was also a meaningful one. I learned how to collaborate with others, organize projects, and show off my knowledge of SMR. I will most definitely take the lessons I have learned from this experience to college and life in general. What made this internship so unique was that I got an insight into how applicants are admitted into St. Mary’s Ryken. I found this intriguing and it made me realize that there is much thought that goes on when making a decision on whether or not an applicant should be admitted into SMR."

Giselle Maldonado, Class of 2024, SMR Admissions Office Intern

Senior Internship - Eddie Lopez

"My experience and time at the Caritas Resource Center was a learning and eye-opening one that taught me things I did not know, showed and introduced me to the lives of many people in our community, and gave me the opportunity and privilege to help them."

Eddie Lopez, Class of 2024, Caritas Resource Center Intern

Senior Internship - Hannah Rison

"My internship for Camp Maria was something I believe God wanted me to do. I was looking for an internship throughout the summer, but nothing had come up. When I came back to school after the summer ended, Camp Maria was an opportunity that was sent out as an internship that needed to be filled. The description was exactly the marketing internship I wanted. When I first started the internship I started making flyers for the Oyster Scald. I was able to teach the operations manager about Instagram and he taught me about Facebook. I taught Greg about how to make stories to get the messages about these events out to a larger audience. My time at Camp Maria also taught me that there are other things that go into marketing than just making posts. I learned a lot about how to work with google sheets to make spreadsheets to collect information. This made emailing information easier for Camp Maria in the future. The biggest thing I learned from my time at Camp Maria is that I have the ability to combine marketing and my Catholic faith which is something that I plan to continue in the future."

Hannah Rison, Class of 2024, Camp Maria Retreat Center Intern

Senior Internship - Mallory Thompson

"Being able to intern at Cedar Lane under Mrs. Tonya, I feel I have learned the importance of caring for those who can’t care for themselves. The gift of compassion. While it is an independent living facility and not a nursing home, these men and women still sometimes need extra care, which can include emotional. Often, these residents have little family and are lonely. Because of Cedar Lane, they have a community where they can make friends, attend fun events, outings, do crafts, and make connections with the staff. Mrs. Tonya builds a personal relationship with the residents and it’s apparent that they love and respect her, as she does them. I am grateful for my time at Cedar Lane and the connections I made along the way"

Mallory Thompson, Class of 2024, Cedar Lane Senior Living Community Intern

Senior Internship - Joaquim Cariaso

"The way I benefited personally from my internship is I learned many helpful things about the human body, muscles, and overall physical fitness. I learned things that I can apply to my own life, such as how important posture is, proper warmup routines, and what I can do to avoid pain later on in my life.

The most important thing I learned at the clinic is that I wish to become a more sports acclimated physical therapist or trainer. The clinic was very nice, but I found it to be slow at times, repetitive, and very simple injuries. I desire a more active, faster paced job in my future. "

Joaquim Cariaso, Class of 2024, CAO PT Clinic in California Intern

Senior Internship - Catie Pensenstadler

"I truly think I benefited because I grew as a person. I was able to communicate with a variety of individuals and gain new perspectives, which is a beautiful thing to experience! I was able to create strong bonds and create new friendships and I wouldn’t have changed a thing about that. Being a Caritas Resource Intern is such a unique opportunity that I couldn’t talk about enough!"

Catie Pensenstadler, Class of 2024, Caritas Resource Center Intern
