St. Mary's Ryken Environmental Club Received Sustainability Award
In early May, the St Mary's County Commission on the Environment announced the St. Mary's Ryken Maryland Environmental Protection Organization (MEPO) club as a St Mary's County 2020 Sustainability Award winner!
"Your efforts, despite a global pandemic are to be commended," said Captain Molly Baron, St. Mary's County Commission on the Environment Board Member. "Thank you for demonstrating effort toward social awareness, support of wildlife habitat and sustainable practices."
She continued: "We encourage you to build upon your accomplishments in 2020 and look for new ways of increasing your impact across several lines of effort. The Commission on the Environment is looking for leadership in the St Mary's County community in which businesses, restaurants and schools bust existing environmental sustainability norms. And we certainly encourage you to compete in the 2021 Sustainability Awards Program!"
"MEPO is a 100% student led club," said club moderator, Mr. Jon Smith. "Each club member identified an area of concern within our community, developed a service plan to address the concern, and solicited volunteers to implement their service plan. I am so impressed with their commitment to making our community a better place for us all!"
Mr. Smith concluded: "If this sounds like something you are interested in, sign up for MEPO next year!"
