Emilie Garrabrant Awarded Book Award by St. Mary's College's Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa

We are pleased to share that Class of 2025 member Emilie Garrabrant was awarded the Book Award by St. Mary's College's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Each year, this chapter recognizes a graduating senior in each of the four St. Mary's County high schools.  The chapter awards books that speak to the students' interests as a recognition for their achievement.  Emillie received Silk Ribbon Embroidery Chinese Style by Yuan Weilin, Puppet Flower, A Novel of 1867 Formosa by Yao-Chang Chen, and Co-Intelligence, Living and Working with AI by Ethan Mollick.  

Emilie is a senior in the Global and International Studies Scholars Program and enjoys studying economics, world history, and philosophy. While at SMR, Emilie has been awarded the Zonta Young Woman in Public Affairs Award, a Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, the Princeton Prize in Race Relations Certificate, a Congressional Award Medal, and the Scholastic Arts and Writing Gold Key. 

As a speaker of English, Mandarin, Indonesian, and Spanish, Emilie has been named a China Scholar through the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education which has resulted in a peer-reviewed article; a Mandarin Scholar through the U.S. Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth for a study abroad program in Taiwan; and a Bahasan Indonesian Language Student through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia. 

Emilie founded the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site program in St. Mary’s County to assist low-to-moderate income taxpayers with filling out their tax returns. She devotes time to the DC-Maryland-Virginia Chapter of Encode Justice, where she shares that she has worked to advise academics and industry professionals on artificial intelligence ethics and safety. She has served as a team fundraising co-chair for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Emilie and her teammates raised $88,533.
