11 Fine Arts students Attended the Maryland State Thespian Festival at Towson University

This past weekend, eleven SMR actors attended the annual Maryland State Thespian Festival.  Attending were over 800 high school thespians from over 40 Maryland schools.  Each student had the opportunity to attend 10 different workshops in the world of theatre.   Students attended workshops in musical theatre dance, auditioning, puppetry, Laban movement training, directing and many others.

Six students presented solo musical theatre songs for adjudication and 1 student presented a solo acting piece for adjudication.  Superior scores were received by Katie O’Shields, Katelyn Kovach, and Julia Baddour for their musical theatre pieces.   Excellent scores were received by Megan Skane, Cora Bessette for their musical theatre pieces and Katelyn Kovach for her acting piece.   Blake Meyer received a “Good” rating for her musical theatre piece. Katie O’Shields received one of the highest scoring adjudicated pieces among the more than 800 festival attendees and was selected to present her vocal piece in an end of festival showcase for the entire festival.  She was awarded a Musical Theatre Scholarship for college from the Educational Theatre Association.
