Katie Pappas '15 named Head Girls Lacrosse Coach at St. Mary's Ryken

 

St. Mary's Ryken (SMR) announces the hiring of Katie Pappas '15 as Head Girls Lacrosse Coach. Coach Pappas began her position at the start of the Spring season. 

Coach Pappas, a 2015 SMR alumna, brings invaluable insight to student-athletes. Former WCAC Player of The Year, now a D1 coach at University of Richmond, Katie has excelled in both field hockey and lacrosse at Drexel University.

"The girls lacrosse team is a very young and talented group," said Coach Pappas. "I've joined a fantastic staff and there is so much excitement and energy around the program because of the effort the coaches and student-athletes have poured into their experience here at SMR. I'm thrilled to return to my alma mater!" 

"Coach Pappas will lead this young, talented team and staff to crucial development on the field while creating a championship culture and standard that transforms the student-athlete experience our girls lacrosse program offers," said Athletic Director Jon Lombardo. "She knows successful traits and qualities in young athletes and families. She is a member of our greater community and being a multi-sport coach, has the relationships to not only recruit on campus but also attract motivated student-athletes to attend SMR because of her experience in the league and with college sports. She knows the SMR mission and will attract the right people who believe in the SMR experience."

Coach Pappas's coaching staff boasts diverse talent, excelling in recruiting and nurturing student-athletes at SMR. With her strategic recruiting and coaching approach, the SMR girls lacrosse program is poised to ascend to championship contention in the near future.

"Coach Pappas fosters a love for the game and cultivates a culture where striving for and achieving goals is the norm," said Lombardo. "With her extensive experience as an assistant coach in field hockey and lacrosse, she builds strong relationships that empower every student-athlete, regardless of skill level, to thrive and feel valued within the program."
