Congrats to SMR Signed Student-Athletes

In a presentation ceremony earlier this week, seven St. Mary's Ryken student-athletes signed national letters of intent for the college they plan to attend next fall.

JaKayla Brown a member of the girls varsity basketball team for four years has signed a National Letter of Intent for Hofstra University a NCAA Division I institution in Long Island, New York and a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. As a SMR student-athlete, JaKayla earned Honorable Mention All-WCAC honors her freshman year. She earned 3rd Team All WCAC and Honorable Mention All St. Mary's County her sophomore year.  Her Junior year she was 1st Team All WCAC and 1st Team All County. JaKayla has scored over 1,000 points in her career.  She has been on the President's List Honor Roll every quarter at SMR.

King Sandoval, a member of the varsity wrestling team at SMR for four years has signed his National letter of Intent for the University of Maryland a NCAA Division I school in College Park, Maryland and a member of the Big Ten Conference.  As a freshman, King was WCAC Runner up and Maryland State Champion and 1st Team All County. His sophomore year he won the WCAC title and Maryland State Championship and was named County Wrestler of the Year. As a junior, he had a 63-7 record and repeated winning the WCAC Title, Maryland State Title, County Wrestler of the Year. He was Runner Up at the National Prep meet. This past summer he earned a silver medal in Greco Roman and a bronze medal in Freestyle Wrestling at the Pan American games. His career at SMR includes 182 wins with 101 of them coming by pin fall. Academically he has been on the Principal's List honor roll for three quarters and President's list honor roll four times.

Ty Oehlerking of the boys Lacrosse Team has signed a NLI with the University of Tampa a NCAA Division II school in Florida and a member of the Sunshine State Conference. Ty has been on the President's List honor roll for five quarters since coming to SMR.

From the girls lacrosse team, Allison Brown has signed a NLI with the University of Oregon, a NCAA D-I institution in Eugene and a member of the Pac 12.  She has been on the President's List honor Roll every quarter at SMR. She also plays field hockey and was recently named 2nd team All WCAC.

Also from the girls lacrosse team, Mia Creighton has been a member of the team for four seasons. As a sophomore she was named 3rd Team All WCAC and Honorable Mention and has signed with Winthrop University, a NCAA Division I school in Rock Hill, South Carolina and a member of the Big South Conference. As a sophomore she was named 3rd Team All WCAC and Honorable Mention All-County. As a Junior she was named 2nd team All-WCAC and 1st Team All-County. She has been on the Principals list for seven quarters and President's list honor roll for four quarters.

A member of the girls track team for three seasons, Kelisa Cain has signed with Harvard University, a NCAA Division I school in the Ivy League in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In Kelisa's sophomore year, she was 2nd team All WCAC, Honorable Mention All-Met and Honorable Mention All-County. Her junior year she won the Maryland Independent school 55-meter dash indoor state championship and was 2nd place at the WCAC 100 and 200 meter dashes. She also set new school records in 200 meter dash and long jump. She has made the President's List honor roll all 9 quarters she has been at SMR.

Wynston Tabbs, a member of the boys basketball team for four seasons, Wynston has signed with Boston College a NCAA Division I school in the Atlantic Coast Conference and located in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.  In his freshman year, Winston earned Honorable Mention honors for the WCAC and All County. His sophomore year he was 3rd Team All WCAC and the County player of the year. His junior year he was 1st team All WCAC and repeated as County player of the year. He has scored over 1000 points in his high school career.
