31 Total SMR Signed Student-Athletes!

In a presentation in mid May, eleven St. Mary's Ryken student-athletes signed national letters of intent for the college they plan to attend next fall. As the final signing day event for the school year, the event marked a total of 31 seniors from SMR going on to compete at the collegiate level.

From the cheer team, Hannah Papp has earned 2 varsity letters in cheerleading at and was the MVP of the Cross Country team her sophomore year. Last season she earned the Ryken Award for the cheer team.  She has been on the President's List Honor Roll all 11 possible quarters at SMR after transferring to SMR from Bishop John J. Snyder in Jacksonville, Florida after her freshman year.

She will be attending Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Florida.

Ave Maria is a popular choice for SMR graduates. Three soccer players and a baseball player have chosen to continue their education and athletic careers there as well.

Cameron Barford was a 2-year varsity letterman at SMR and has been named to the Principals List Honor Roll 4 times and the President's List 3 times.

Greg Lawrence was a four-year letterman on the SMR soccer team. He was named most promising his freshman year, 2nd team all WCAC and Honorable Mention All-County his sophomore year, Team MVP and 1st Team All-WCAC and 1st Team All-County his junior year. His senior year he dealt with injuries and was still named Ryken Award winner for the team, and Honorable Mention all WCAC. He was on the Principals list Honor Roll each quarter of his freshman year then reached the President's List Honor Roll for his remaining 11 quarters.

Trae Schadegg is from Colonial Beach, Virginia and was a two year letterman on the SMR Soccer Team. He earned the coaches Award his senior season. He was on the President's List Honor Roll for 14 quarters.

Lauren Davey has been a three-year letterman on the girls soccer team as a goalie. Her Junior year she was named 1st Team All County and County Player of the year. As a senior she was named team MVP, Honorable Mention All-WCAC and Honorable Mention All County. She was named to the Principals List honor roll twice and President's list once. Lauren will attend Mt. Aloysius College a NCAA Division III institution in Cresson, PA and a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.

Beth Staufenberger was a four-year letterman on the SMR girls soccer team. She was awarded the most promising award her freshman year, and the Coaches Award her senior year. She has been on the President's List Honor Roll all 15 quarters at SMR.  Beth will be attending Shenandoah University a NCAA Division III school in Winchester, Virginia and a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Tanner Donaldson earned a varsity letter all four years on the boys lacrosse team. He was named Honorable Mention All County as a junior.  Academically he has been on the Principal's List honor roll for 13 quarters. He will be attending Frostburg State University a NCAA Division III school in Frostburg, Maryland and a member of Capital Athletic Conference.

From the girls lacrosse team, Teresa Matthias has been a four year letterman and made the President's List honor roll for 14 quarters and had 1 quarter on the Principals Honor roll. She will be attending York College of York, Pennsylvania a NCAA Division III school and a member of the Capital Athletic Conference.

David Granger is a two-time letterman on the SMR baseball team. He will be attending the College of Southern Maryland. CSM is a member of NJCAA Division III. The College of Southern Maryland has four campuses with LaPlata serving as the host campus for the baseball team.

Devin Mattingly is a member of the list of SMR athletes attending the Western Florida institute of Ave Maria. Devin is a 2-year letterman for SMR's baseball team. He earned 2nd team All-WCAC as a senior pitcher. He made the Principal's List honor roll 10 quarters and the President's list once.

Rounding out our signees for the class of 2018 are members of our football team. Ernie Sigmon earned 4 varsity letters in football and wrestling. As a wrestler he was 1st team All-County as a freshman, Honorable Mention All-WCAC and Honorable Mention All-County as a sophomore. As a junior he was WCAC Champion, 1st Team All-County, 7th at the State Meet and Honorable Mention All-Met. As a senior he was WCAC champion and 1st Team All-County. In football he was 1st Team All-County as a senior. He made the Principals List honor roll nine time and was a one time member of the President's Honor Roll. Ernie will be attending Salisbury University a NCAA Division III school in Salisbury, MD and a member of the Capital Athletic Conference.

Brett Blandford from the football team is a three-time varsity letter winner in Lacrosse and two-time varsity letter winner in Football. He made the President's List Honor Roll all 15 semesters at SMR. Brett will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a NCAA Division III school in Troy, New York and a member of the Liberty League to play football.
