Parents and guardians,

Another school year is upon us and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Jason DeLucco, and this year is my sixth year of teaching at St. Mary’s Ryken High School.  To give you a little more information about myself; I was raised in Waldorf where my mother is the principal of St. Peter’s elementary school.  I am a graduate of the SMR class of 1998 and I attended the University of Delaware from 1998-2002 where I received my bachelor’s degree in political science education with a minor in history.  I am currently enrolled in graduate courses at College of Notre Dame.

I would like to take this time to highlight some of my classroom policies and expectations for your children.  The most important thing in my classroom is respect.  I will give your children respect from the moment they walk in the door, and I expect the same in return.  I expect the children to be on time and be prepared for class with all homework completed.  They will pay attention in class to me and to their follow classmates.  They will remain silent when anyone else talks, as they would expect the same.  Late homework assignments will not be accepted and will result in a zero no matter what the circumstances may be.  Assignments turned in without a name will not be accepted and will result in a zero for that assignment.  Test, quizzes, and projects may be made up within a week of the original due date.  I reserve the right not to accept any assignment that does not fit the criteria set out in the course requirements sheet.  All of my expectations and guidelines are outlined in the syllabus that your children received on the first day of class and were instructed to take home for you to read.

It is my responsibility to work in both the school’s and the children’s best interest, I pledge to do this.  My class is designed with the students in mind.  It is my duty to respond in a timely manner to your comments and questions whether they come in via e-mail or phone, however e-mail is preferred.  I will do my best to keep my website up to date with information about the class and upcoming assignments so you are well informed in regards to what your child is doing in my class.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.

I hope this letter is the beginning of a strong partnership between parent and teacher, since we are both instrumental in any child’s success in school.  Thank you.

 Jason DeLucco
