STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

  1. You are to come to class in uniform and be ready to work; notebooks, homework, pencils, and calculators out on desk and ready to start the Warm Up (if provided).
  2. All homework is to be done in your notebook.  You are expected to do all homework assignedYou will have one day for every day absent (up to one week) to present makeup work.  WORK MUST BE MADE UP WITHIN ONE WEEK, otherwise it becomes a zero.  A syllabus will be provided on my website, so stay current, or work ahead.  HOMEWORK WILL BE UPDATED EVERY 7 DAY CYLCE ON THE WEB.
  3. Quizzes and Tests missed due to absence are to be scheduled by the student with me the day the student returns.  The date will be set and the student is responsible for taking the evaluation on that day.
  4. You are to follow and uphold ALL the criteria in the student-parent handbook including attendance, and the SMR HONOR CODE.
  5. You are to respect the property and rights of all individuals in the class; no disruptive behavior. There is to be no food, drinks, or gum inside of the classroom.
  6. Academic dishonestly – cheating – is a conscious choice.  Any appearance of impropriety – visible notes during a quiz or test, eyes on another student’s paper, etc. – will result in a 0% for any assignment or evaluation and the most severe accountability will be recommended.  This is a very simple concept and I expect each of my students to make the wise choice – to act with integrity.

 Instructional Methods

1.  As we cover topics, students will have the opportunity to work with concepts analytically, numerically, graphically, and verbally.

2.  I will try to make as many of the topics interactive for the students using PowerPoint presentations using the LCD projector and using the Mimio interactive whiteboard as often as possible.

3.  I will use exploration lessons to allow students to discover “rules” on their own, although the pace of the course is demanding and will limit our time for exploring.

4.  Students also go to the board to work problems for the class explaining their solution strategy as they go.  This builds confidence and practice in describing concepts verbally.

5.  We frequently play games in the class.  These games engage students and require them to demonstrate a wide variety of skills including interpreting graphs, translating application problems into mathematical formulations, and help them improve their speed in solving problems.

6.  Students are taught calculator skills throughout the class.  Each student is taught how to use trigonometric functions on the calculator and how to use the graph and table functions to analyze trigonometric functions.

7.  Mathematica is used as a demonstration tool to enhance conceptual understand of trigonometric functions.
