Course Description:
Honors Algebra I is the in depth introduction of variables, constants, expressions and equations. Topics covered are: solving equations, simplifying expressions, understanding order of operations, using properties (field axioms), arithmetic operations with positive and negative numbers, polynomials, factoring, graphing (linear and quadratic equations), working with radicals and expanding arithmetic knowledge .
Course Goals/Objectives:
Students will:
n Use the distributive property to multiply polynomials.
n Know how to compose and decompose functions and how to find inverses of basic functions.
n Simplify and perform basic operations on rational expressions, including finding common denominators.
n Understand exponents, roots and their properties.
n Know basic theorems of exponents and roots.
n Solve linear equations and absolute value equations.
n Solve linear inequalities and absolute value inequalities.
n Solve systems of linear equations and inequalities using algebraic and graphical methods.
n Solve quadratic equations using various methods.
n Know when it is possible to simplify, solve, substitute or evaluate equations and expressions.
n Understand the algebraic language and notation for functions.

- TI-83 Calculator (Required for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th quarters)
- Pencils (No pens allowed)

2. You are expected to come to class prepared; i.e.: books, notebooks, calculator, and pencils are to be brought every day (unless told otherwise).
