Tests—There will be an average of 2 to 3 tests per quarter.  They will assess the student’s language acquisition in the four main areas of language: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, writing and oral proficiency.  Students may also be assigned major projects, no more than 2 per quarter, which will be counted as a test grade.

Quizzes—There will be between 5 and 10 quizzes per quarter, depending on the pace of the class.  Most quizzes will be taken directly from the text and will last 20-25 minutes.

Class Work --- Throughout the year, some assignments will be too large to be considered a homework assignment but not large enough to be considered a quiz.  These assignments may include pop quizzes, small writing assignments, and packets.

Journals--- Students will be assigned a journal topic on the first day of class in each cycle.  This journal will be due on the last class day of the cycle.  Journlas will be typed, and double spaced.

Studying -- Studying a language can be a lot of fun but it also requires time and effort on your part.  A language also builds upon itself so if you feel you do not understand a section of the class COME SEE ME!!!!  I will be available for help after school; do not hesitate to seek help.

Homework Policy:

No half or partial credit will be given for partial work.  No late homework will be accepted, unless the student is absent from school. (See Make Up Work policy below)

Make-Up Work Policy:

1. If a student is absent then it is the student’s responsibility to get the homework from the syllabus, complete it, and hand it in the following day.

2.  If the student is absent on the day of a test or quiz, but is aware of it, the student is expected to make it up on the next day.

3. Unless a student is absent for an extended period, absence on the day before a test or an assignment DOES NOT relieve the student of his/her responsibilities.

4.  Students are expected to complete all assignments both in and out of class on time.  SPORTS ARE NOT AN EXCUSE.  Any student who is away due to participation in a sport is required to turn in the work due ON THAT DAY and is also responsible for the work missed in class.

Quiz retake policy:

Students who receive less than a 70% on ANY quiz (except pop quizzes) may retake it as many times as necessary in order to pass.  Quizzes that are retaken get marked as a 70% even if the score received is greater.

Classroom Policies:

1. Arrive on time to class, with all personal needs taken care of before class.

2. Students are expected to arrive with materials needed for class, including textbook, workbooks, homework, and any other materials that will be needed that day.

3. Treat the instructor and other students in a respectful manner.  This includes being attentive during discussions and working with other students in a courteous manner.

4. Actively participate in all activities that take place during class time.

5. No food, drink, candy, or makeup application is allowed in the classroom.

6. No derogatory remarks based on race, creed, sex, or sexual orientation will be tolerated.

Honor Code:  Since this is an honors class, if any student is found to be cheating on any work (including copying homework) all students involved will be removed from the class and placed in Spanish II College Prep.

In order to be placed in HSPIII next year you must receive a B+ or better, otherwise you will move to SPIII.
