English 2111 is a broad program centering on English as a tool for communication. Freshmen study literature, review basic skills of reading and writing, and explore the components of research. The literature program is a survey, including short and long fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, poetry, and drama. The emphasis is on understanding and appreciating samples from literary tradition.

 

Course Goals/Objectives:

·         Develop in students an appreciation for literature through exposure to a variety of genres.

·         Encourage students to seek a higher level of response through inquiry and research.

·         Increase students writing skills in developing essays as well as short responses to literature.

·         Foster a love of reading for enjoyment through modeling.

 

Instructional Methods include but are not limited to group lecture, paired reading, cooperative learning activities, collaborative discussions as well as projects, independent reading and research are methods used for this class.
