UPDATED 08.21.08 3:31PM: The course syllabus follows: YEARBOOK 7251 COURSE DESCRIPTION
The 2008-2009 St. Mary’s Ryken Yearbook, Shining Armour, is the sole historian for the school year. Yearbook members are responsible for accurately covering the major school events and functions. However, they must also create a publication that the student body can cherish for a lifetime.
This course is an elective that requires a commitment. Students are requested to attend after school meetings during the course of the year to work with under classmates because the course itself is limited to junior and senior students.
The course involves layout design, writing, and editing, computer/graphic design using EliteVision, and photography. The course emphasizes responsible work habits while allowing the young journalist the opportunity to learn and grow through this hands-on process. Students learn more than yearbook fundamentals. They learn: time management, become self-starters, delegate responsibility, demonstrate knowledge, share resources, and motivate co-workers.
Students will receive the EliteVision disk to download on their home computer. Students are expected to work on assignments at home as well as during class time. Students receive a Yearbook disk for assignments and must use the disk exclusively for that purpose. Further, this disk must remain in the classroom except when taken home for overnight use.
